Creative Movement - These classes will introduce ballet/jazz basics and inspires young dancers to express themselves through movement. Movement is introduced, and has the students apply imagination, energy and coordination. Focus on form and technique is part of the curriculum along with allowing young children to enjoy dance and self-expression.
Ballet - The foundation for all dance, ballet teaches grace, strength and technique. Ballet is designed to introduce students to classical dance. Class will begin with barre work and move into center work and across-the-floor technique. Students will learn proper body alignment and will receive a strong technique foundation.
Jazz - Jazz embodies styles and techniques from ethnic and contemporary dance to ballet. Class will begin with stretching and toning exercises to prepare the body for the technique taught in class. Jazz classes are a great workout, and they’re fun. All sorts of music – Broadway, jazz, pop, and contemporary will be used in class.
Lyrical - Combination of ballet and jazz techniques expressed through the lyrics of the music.
Contemporary - Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.
Hip Hop - Hip Hop is a type of dance seen on today’s popular television and music videos. Hip Hop is a fun way to learn how to dance as you learn to move in many different ways. Style is based on the teacher’s choreography and experience. Age-appropriate movement and music is selected for each class.
Tap- is a rhythmic exercise and dance form enjoyable for all ages. It offers a variety of styles and techniques. Students ranging from 5 to adult enjoy tap dance classes at Dance Studio of Maine.
Acro - Classes work towards improving flexibility, balance, concentration, strength, and control. Dancers will learn how to properly execute Acro tricks similar to the mat component of gymnastics. Students will learn such things as handstands, chin stands, elbow stands, walkovers, balancing tricks & contortion tricks. Partner and group skills will also be incorporated. There will be a strong focus on stretching and flexibility.
Dance Mix - Dance Mix is an opportunity for adult dancers to explore different genres of dance. The styles will include jazz, contemporary, lyrical and hip hop. The class will determine what style they will like to perform in the recital. Our adult classes are fun, no-pressure, and an opportunity to be around others who enjoy the same activity.
